Welcome to the Torma Film blog where I’ll share photos, video clips, and information collected while researching the subject of tormas. In 2005, I had the privilege of watching monks and nuns make exquisitely beautiful tormas for the International Kagyu Monlam (Prayer Festival for World Peace) held annually in Bodhgaya, India. These tormas had been designed by His Holiness, the 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, and he oversaw every aspect of their creation.
Since the medium of film is particularly well-suited to conveying both the intricate beauty and multilayered symbolism of these unusual works of art, a torma film project gradually evolved and is currently in progress under His Holiness’s visionary guidance and direction.
